The Situation is Fluid (2021)
The situation is fluid is a multimedia exhibition of painting, photography, performance, sculpture, drawing, installation by 16 artists who participated in a residency in Amsterdam between 1991 and 2021. The selection seen here presents works made in residency, which resonate with the struggles of our contemporary world-in-crisis and, also, works that speak of a search for groundedness. They address exploitation and destruction of material and natural resources and their impact on the climate and all beings, gender and racial disparities, geopolitical crises, authoritarian regimes, land occupation, migration, coloniality of archives and knowledge. These issues are addressed by embodying – directly or indirectly – the idea of fluidity, distortion, liquidity, connectivity, transversality, and by proposing counter narratives and alternative stories that draw on the personal and the collective.
